FAQ

Rebate & Incentive Questions Answered

Have more questions? Call us — we'll walk you through your options in plain language.

What is the PG&E Rebate Plus Option?

The PG&E Rebate Plus Option provides up to $2,000 toward the cost of a complete Level 2 EV home charger installation for eligible PG&E residential customers. The rebate covers equipment, permits, labor, and inspection — and Hertz Electric handles the application as part of our service.

What is the Clean Cars for All program?

Clean Cars for All is a California Air Resources Board (CARB) program that helps income-eligible households retire older, higher-polluting vehicles and transition to cleaner transportation. For qualifying homeowners, it can provide up to $5,000 when combined with the PG&E Rebate Plus Option for a panel upgrade and EV charger installation.

Do I need a panel upgrade to get the EV charger rebate?

No. Many homes qualify for the $2,000 EV charger rebate without needing a panel upgrade — even with a 100-amp panel. We often use load management systems to safely install EV charging without overloading your existing panel. The $5,000 combined rebate applies to projects that do include a panel upgrade.

Does Hertz Electric handle the rebate application for me?

Yes — completely. As a PG&E Authorized Trade Ally Contractor, we manage the entire rebate process: eligibility verification, application submission, permit filings, installation, utility inspection, and final approval documentation. You don't need to fill out a single form or navigate any program portal on your own.

How long does the rebate process take?

Most EV charger installations are completed in a single day. The full rebate application and approval process can take 2–6 weeks depending on PG&E's processing times. We'll give you a realistic timeline during your free estimate.

Can I get both the PG&E rebate and the Clean Cars for All benefit?

Potentially yes, if you qualify for both programs. The combined benefit can reach up to $5,000 for income-eligible homeowners who need both a panel upgrade and EV charger. We'll assess your full eligibility during your free estimate.

Which EV charger brands qualify for the rebate?

Most Level 2 EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) brands qualify, including Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Enel X, and Emporia. We only install qualifying equipment and will confirm charger eligibility before your project begins.

What if I'm not a PG&E customer?

These specific programs are for PG&E customers. If you're served by a different utility — such as Silicon Valley Power (SVP) in Santa Clara or Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) — you may qualify for separate programs through those utilities. Call us and we'll identify what's available in your area.

Ready to Maximize Your Rebate?

Let us check your eligibility and lock in your savings. Most homeowners leave money on the table simply because they don't know these programs exist — don't be one of them.
